Art Deco Joe
Growing up in Inglewood in the early 70’s makes me feel very much at home in the 30’s cottages that are still around today. Some have fallen to developers but there are many still remaining in their existing condition. In the 30’s people had 2 Bedrooms and a sleepout on the back verandah for the youngest of 5 children. Nowadays we have 5 bedrooms for 2 children.
Not everyone knows the Art Deco Style. I found this You Tube clip quite informative.
It’s an opportune time to show it, as much of what follows will then have meaning.
It’s funny it’s like Volkswagons you never notice them until someone points them out and sudenly they’re everywhere.
Art Deco buildings are the same, ubiquitous!
As well as Inglewood, Californian bungalows are all over Maylands, Wembley, Daglish, Nedlands and South Perth, enough to keep me going.
We can quote off your plans or develop them together. It’s important to look at how you wish to invest in the property or block. There’s the logical thinking and there’s the emotional. The logical will be what is going to increase the value, the emotional is the marble tiles and gold taps that you positively definitely must have and then of course there is the inevitable compromise.
Getting the design right
People sometimes ask “What’s in your head when you’re thinking of the design and how it all goes together. I think this clip illustrates what builders wake up thinking. If you’re doing it all the time, it kinda makes sense. If you’re not used to it, it’s mind boggling. But then again so probably is your job to me.
Best left to someone who’s already there and do what you do best, you can only go through so many learning curves in a lifetime.
Perhaps if we get a moment you can explain Stephen Hawking’s book “A Brief History of Time”‘ because I didn’t get any of it.
I’m like Woody Allen’s quote “I did a speed reading course and read War and Peace in 20 minutes, it was about Russia”.
We can meet at a McDonald’s for a coffee and discuss your requirements if you’d like?
What will it cost me to get some preliminary sketches and budgets?
A commitment deposit of $500.
I’m going to pay a draftsman and an estimator to develop your proposal? It’s best I don’t charge the people I work for, to pay for the people I don’t.
